Mangaluru, Apr 21: A case has been registered at Kadri police station after a bike rider allegedly assaulted on-duty police personnel who questioned him for parking his motorcycle on the road and obstructing traffic. The accused also damaged the mobile phone of a police staff member.

According to police, traffic east police station constable Maligera Halesh, head constable Praveen, and head constable Champa were regulating traffic at the Nanthoor junction on Saturday. During this time, a bike rider had parked his motorcycle across the road from Padavu towards Bikarnakatte, causing obstruction to other vehicles. When constable Halesh instructed him to move the bike forward, the rider abused him verbally.

Subsequently, Praveen and Champa rushed to the spot and advised the rider to park the bike by the roadside and speak. At this point, the rider assaulted Praveen on the face. When Halesh and Champa tried to intervene, a woman accompanying the rider allegedly threatened them, saying she would hit them with her slippers.

The rider then snatched Praveen’s mobile phone and smashed it on the ground, causing damage estimated at Rs 28,000, police said.

The police department should come down heavily on the offenders. It is not an easy job to regulate the traffic at such a busy junction as Nantoor and that too in this hot and humid heat.

Nanthoor circle is a very difficult place for any police personnel to handle ..that too in this hot humid weather...anybody with a basic civic sense would cooperate with police ... do not spare these traffic offenders.. if police department and law goes easy on them, then you are essentially demotivating the police force.. revoke the licence..jail both of them and also publich their details and fine them ...

Is that all should be done ? Look at the pathetic state of our police personell..They are getting beaten up for doing their duty..Police should drag the culprits to police station and treat them in a way that they are admitted in wenlock for atleast a week.
