Panaji, Apr 23: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has urged citizens to stop disposing of garbage in plastic bags, stressing the need for responsible waste management and greater public participation in keeping the state clean.

The appeal came during the inauguration of a 10 TPD gasification-based waste treatment plant, aimed at strengthening Goa’s waste processing capacity.

Highlighting the environmental impact of improper disposal, Sawant called on people to cooperate with existing waste management systems and adopt cleaner practices.

He said public participation was crucial to ensure the long-term success of waste management efforts and maintaining cleanliness across the state.

The Chief Minister said the government had already invested nearly Rs 1,000 crore under the ‘Clean Goa’ initiative to improve waste management infrastructure and promote sustainable solutions.

Authorities hope that with improved facilities and greater awareness, citizens will take a more active role in reducing plastic waste and supporting efforts to maintain a cleaner environment.
