Sanju Samson scripts record, registers highest individual score for CSK against Mumbai Indians

Mumbai, Apr 23: Sanju Samson continued his sparkling form for Chennai Super Kings, scripting a new record during their IPL 2026 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

The Kerala wicketkeeper-batter, batting on 91 at the 19.1-over mark, became the highest individual scorer for Chennai Super Kings against Mumbai Indians in IPL history.

In the process, Samson surpassed the previous CSK record held by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had scored an unbeaten 88 off 58 balls against Mumbai Indians in Dubai on September 19, 2021.

Samson’s fluent knock came in a high-stakes contest and played a crucial role in powering Chennai’s innings.

While he now holds the record for the highest score by a CSK batter against Mumbai Indians, the overall highest individual score in matches between the two franchises remains with former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya.

Jayasuriya had blasted an unbeaten 114 for Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings during an IPL 2008 match on May 14.

Samson’s innings added another milestone to the storied rivalry between the two most successful IPL franchises.
