Kundapur, Apr 24: Shankaranarayana police have successfully solved a temple theft case reported at the Umamaheshwara Temple in Ajri village of Kundapur taluk, arresting two accused and recovering stolen property worth approximately Rs 1.5 lac.
According to the complaint, an unidentified helmet-wearing individual arrived at the outer premises of the temple at around 7.56 am on April 20, stole the temple’s donation box, and fled the scene. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Shankaranarayana police station.

Under the guidance of Kundapur sub-division deputy superintendent of police H D Kulkarni and circle inspector Santosh A Kaikini, a team led by PSI (Law & Order) I R Gaddekar and PSI (Investigation) Kumari Akshaya Kumari S N, along with staff members Sachin Shetty, Jayaram Naik, Chetan Kumar, Naveen Naik, Kundapur Rural police personnel Mounesh Naik, and district technical cell officer Dinesh, carried out the investigation.
Police arrested the accused Sandeep Achari (28), a resident of Mathadamane, Kamalashile, Kundapur taluk, and Muthappa Sharanappa Walikar (40), a resident of Banahatti, Kushtagi taluk in Koppal district, from Ilkal in Bagalkot district.
Police seized the motorcycle used in the crime, three mobile phones, and the stolen donation box from the Umamaheshwara Temple. The total estimated value of the recovered items is around Rs 1,50,000.
The accused were produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
