FIR filed over illegal mineral extraction in Betul, govt loss pegged at Rs 12 lac

Margao, Apr 25: Cuncolim police have registered an FIR against unknown persons for allegedly carrying out illegal mineral extraction from agricultural and other land in Naquerim, Betul, causing an estimated loss of Rs 12 lakh to the state exchequer.

Police said the accused allegedly excavated and extracted minerals from multiple survey numbers in Naquerim before July 2024 without obtaining the required licence or permit from competent authorities.

The illegally extracted minerals were allegedly transported to an unknown destination, officials said.

Police sources said the accused have been booked for alleged theft of government resources for personal gain.

A case has been registered at Cuncolim police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Rules 3, 38 and 73(1) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Minor Minerals Concession Rules.

Further investigation is underway.
