Udupi: 42-year-old autorickshaw driver drowns in river at Herga

Udupi, Apr 27: A 42-year-old autorickshaw driver from Herga village drowned in a river on April 26, and his body was recovered the following morning.

According to a complaint filed by Narayana Poojary (75), a resident of Herga, his son Sujith Kumar (42), who worked as a rental autorickshaw driver, had left home at around 6 am on April 26 for work. Later in the day, at approximately 12:45 pm, he reportedly went for a swim in the Holebagilu river in Herga village of Udupi taluk.

While swimming, Sujith Kumar is believed to have accidentally drowned. His body was found on the riverbank at around 7 am on April 27.

A case has been registered at the Manipal police station under UDR No. 22/2026, under Section 194 of the BNSS.

Further investigation is underway.
