New Delhi, Apr 30: An Air India pilot died after suffering a heart attack while on scheduled rest in Bali, Indonesia, on Wednesday, airline officials said.

The first officer, aged around 40, had operated a flight from Delhi to Bali on Tuesday and was staying at a hotel during the mandated crew rest period when he reportedly experienced severe discomfort.

According to an Air India spokesperson, he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had suffered a heart attack. Despite efforts by the medical team, he could not be revived.

“Air India is deeply saddened by the loss of the pilot. We are in close contact with his family and are extending all possible assistance during this difficult time,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Sources in the airline said the pilot had undergone all mandatory medical examinations as per regulatory norms just a few months ago and had no known pre-existing health conditions.

It was also noted that he had been operating strictly within the flying-hour limits prescribed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
