Udupi Bypoll: Congress, BJP Accelerate Campaign

Udupi, Mar 11: Political parties have accelerated their Udupi - Chikmagalur bypoll campaign by reaching out to voters across constituency. State and national leaders of both Congress and BJP have camped in various places to give 'star status' to the campaign.

Senior BJP leader and member of parliament Ananth Kumar took a 'padayatra' around Karkala and sought votes for BJP candidate Sunil Kumar. He was accompanied by state minister Govinda Karajola, Tipatur MLA Nagesh, Udupi BJP district president Udaya Kumar Shetty, and a number of party workers.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Ananth Kumar expressed the confidence of winning the bypoll by a huge margin. He recalled the contribution of the late Dr V S Acharya and declared that the BJP's victory will be dedicated to Dr Acharya for his contribution to the state, and the district in particular. He hailed the administration of CM Sadananda Gowda, and said people will vote for the development programmes undertaken by BJP government in the state.

He ridiculed Veerappa Moliy, and criticised him saying, "Moily in his tenure as CM of Karnataka did nothing for the district, that's the reason he ran away from his home district to Chikkaballapur for fighting elections."

On the other hand, state Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and Dr Parameshwar have been seeking votes for Congress candidate J P Hegde. Both leaders have stationed in the district and criticising the ruling BJP. The latest blue film episode, mining scam, corruption, internal differences within the party etc have been their main weapons to fight against the BJP.

Parameshwar has been visiting religious places to pray and seek votes from religious leaders. He visited Udupi Church and met its parish priest to seek his blessing and urged hime vote for Congress.

Gopal Bhandary, Karkala MLA has alleged that BJP has made a secret agreement with JD(S)  to defeat Congress in the state. "If JD(S) is really a secular party, it should not have been fielded its candiate. By fielding Boje Gowda, it has proved that it does not want to fight against communal forces in the state."

Congress candidate J P Hegde said that the state government is on the verge of a collapse. There may be mid-term assembly elections in the coming days, he said. He expressed his confidence of winning this bypoll.

Its is election time, and if anyone goes where there is a gathering it is not and should not be a big issue, Harsha was celebrating their anniversary and both Anath Kumar and Sunil kumar had not gone for shopping that is a valid reason no problem on Saturday Kadabettu Shensha temple had its anniversary all the top BJP leader and the local leaders visted the temple and the announcement was again and again made upon their arrival and requested all who gathered there to pray for them, and highlighting them again and again in the loud speakers that was nothing but a political campaign and again at this time it is justified so showing fingers and accusing who visted where is a foolish thing, but if the church has told them to vote for a particular party that is for sure wrong, the clergy job is not political it is religious

I do not have problems with politicians visiting temples or churches but I seriously object to POLITICIANS giving donations out of public money and posing with sadhu / swamy’s only to fool the innocent voter.

Dear Sharath Mangalore,I have no objection whoever visits wherever!Yet first Citizen of Karnataka visiting particular community temple only in the time of election !? means are we not belongs to them/state?CM post is like of king of the state.India is a secular country and taking oath in that spirit.Treat everybody equally and no partisan in any manner.Going one's place of worship is discretion power of the Individual and using that place for vote bank politics is highly objectionable and having said that why Congress/JDS leaders visiting Churches and Masjids a question asked by you is completely wrong instead they also visits temples. BJP leaders only prefers to visit Temples in the time of election!!

Dear Sharath, your argument sounds very reasonable and rationale but ask bjp and it's dozens of sister concern to restrain targeting minorities and their interest. We need united India to counter any outside interference for that Sanghparivar making divisions amongest us rather than uniting. For your kind information I volunteered for a BAJANA MANDIR in my native place and we are still living like brothers.HOWEVER,THE ISSUE RAISED BY YOU IS NOT MY CONCERN OR I DID NOT OBJECT FOR ANY VISIT OF ANYBODY
IN THE DAIJIWORLD SO FAR.FOR THE SAKE OF "JUST"ARGUMENT I AM INKING.

    Dear Ismail
My question is not about who is visiting where. Then why you guys have problem if BJP guys visit a religious place which they belive ? Why do you raise doubts about communal issues here ? They may not belive in Islam or Christianity, thats why they dont want to visit Churh's or Masjid's, whats bothering your guys, its their freedo ? . The pastor or whoever is incharge of the church allows the congress people to conduct special prayers for JPH's win(if media reports have to be believed). Is this justified ?

What image do are you trying to create in the minds of the public ?. Openly or indirectly you guys are telling all our community people should vote congress. Ok no problem you can say soo no one can stop you. But will you keep quite if all the seers come out openly to the stage and ask hindu's to vote only BJP ? You would question then what is this swami doing here instead of doing Meditation in Himalayas or practicing Yoga why is he doing Politics.

Will you guys keep quite if Pejaavar seer openly goes to the stage and address the crowd to vote for BJP ? or oppose Congress ?. Will you people keep quite if Krishna Mutt hold a BIg Yaaga or Yajna/Homa openly telling to the outside world that this is our special prayers for SUNIL KUMARS VICTORY ?. Will you guys buy this ?
Just to appease the vote bank if BJP visits all the religious places during Saanth maari or OROOS then whats the diffrence between them & congress ?. So y do you guys have problem dealing with this ? I cannot see even one condemtion especially from Chritian brothers here now when church is used for politics, but there will be thousands if the same prayer had happend in Asta Mutt for BJP win? Any denyl ?

I saw this in the news today morning. Visit of Congis to Church and special prayer(as per UDAYA NEWS) conducted there for JPH win. Now if we say question if church's are used for such political intentions then I become a bad man in the society. Similerly another party visits temples and offeres prayers, then the other community raises doubts about the visit, calls this visit as playing communcal card etc etc. Conducting prayers for one party in Church's & using the holy place for politics is Secular, Offering prayers in temple is communal. % politics based on religion is secular & if you oppose this and advocate % based on economic background is Communal..Ware re Wah !

Dear Congi's you dont have to visit prayer centers to fish for vote bank to make sure they vote for JPH. JPH has his own image in Udupi and its no doubt that he is the more deserving Candidate to win in the forray compared to Sunil Kumar because of his in touch with the people attitude. You can keep playing with the religious sentiments just to Imrpove or keep intact Congress vote bank thats all. If JPH wins this time its just because of his calibre & if in case he looses, then its because of the party he is representing. He is a right man in a Wrong party. That doesent mean that BJP is right party for him. He may had absolute chances if he had contested as a independant than in Congress.

IT'S A WISH, THAT HEGDE COME OUT VICTORIOUS AND BECOME A MINISTER AT THER CENTRE. IF THAT HAPPENS, IN THE FORTCOMING ASSEMBLY POLL IT WILL DEFINETLY TILT THE BALANCE IN FAVOR OF CONGRESS - ESPECIALLY IN UDUPI / D KANNADA / CHICKMAGALORE /U.KANNADA TO AN EXTENT IN SHIMOGGA DISTRICTS.
LUST FOR POWER FROM ALL FACTIONS OF BJP WILL ONLY ALLOW THE STATE GOVT. TO FINISH ITS TERM OTHERWISE MID TERM POLL IS MOST LIKELY....!!!!

This byelection will be prestigieous issue to all political parties.Bjp must thank to Deve Gowda family for putting their candidate in the election. because of jds candidate congress will suffer lot.Jds candidate will gain major share of the minorities vote, this vote will cost congress very badly. Results will be very tough, but at present Bjp has little edge over congress.
