Manali, May 4: A newly installed public phone charging station in Manali meant to Facility tourists has triggered widespread outrage after it was turned into a garbage dumping spot within hours of installation.
The charging facility, set up by the Himachal Pradesh government to help visitors power their devices, was found littered with plastic bottles, disposable cups, paper plates and other waste soon after it became operational.
A viral video circulating on social media showed the station virtually unusable, buried under trash, raising serious concerns about civic sense and public responsibility.

The incident reportedly occurred at the busy Mall Road area, a popular tourist hub, where adequate dustbins are said to be available nearby, further intensifying criticism over irresponsible behaviour.
Netizens reacted sharply, questioning whether cleanliness drives and awareness campaigns can succeed without a change in public attitude. Many pointed out that such incidents reflect a deeper issue of neglect towards shared public infrastructure and growing tourist pressure on hill stations.
The episode has reignited debate on civic discipline, with calls for stricter enforcement as well as greater public awareness to protect newly developed amenities in tourist destinations.
