Bantwal, May 4: The Vittal police have arrested a 26-year-old youth for riding a scooter under the influence of drugs and misbehaving with a police sub-inspector during a vehicle inspection.

The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammed Asbeer (26), a resident of Kolnadu in Bantwal.

According to the police, the incident took place on the afternoon of Sunday, May 3, when Vittal police sub-inspector B S Nayak and his staff were conducting a vehicle checking drive at the Vittal four-way junction. The police intercepted a scooter bearing the registration number KA-19-HX-0497 as the rider was not wearing a helmet.

When stopped for checking, the accused reportedly behaved inappropriately with the sub-inspector and obstructed him from discharging his duties. Suspecting him to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance due to his erratic behavior, the police questioned him, and Asbeer confessed to having consumed narcotics.

He was subsequently subjected to a medical examination, which confirmed the consumption of drugs.

A case has been registered at the Vittal police station under Crime No 100/2026, Section 27 (b) of the NDPS Act 1985, Section 221 of the BNS, and KMV Rule 230(1) read with Section 177 of the IMV Act. Further investigations are underway.
