Indore, May 8: Police in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore launched an investigation after suspicious cash bundles estimated to be worth nearly Rs 2.83 crore were found inside three abandoned bags on the Sanwer-Ujjain Road on Thursday morning.
The incident triggered panic in the locality after a farmer noticed three unattended bags lying under a tree near Bhutta Square and immediately alerted the police.

A police team rushed to the spot and took the bags into custody for inspection. Upon opening them, officers discovered hundreds of bundles containing Rs 500 currency notes. Preliminary estimates suggested the total cash amounted to around Rs 2.83 crore.
However, during closer examination, police found that only a few genuine currency notes had been placed on top of the bundles, while several packets contained fake notes and coloured plain paper inside.
Investigators suspect the bags may have been linked to a major fraud operation or an illegal financial transaction.
Following the discovery, police sealed off the area and initiated a detailed probe into the incident. CCTV footage from the highway and nearby locations is being reviewed to identify those responsible for abandoning the bags and to ascertain the motive behind the act.
Police said the suspicious bundles have been seized and further investigation is in progress.
