New Delhi, May 8: Ace Indian doubles badminton player Satwiksairaj Rankireddy on Friday clarified that his recent comments regarding the muted public response to India’s Thomas Cup bronze medal were not aimed at seeking “money or grand parades”, but at encouraging greater appreciation for achievements in all sports.

Satwik, who along with partner Chirag Shetty forms the world No. 4 men’s doubles pair, was part of the Indian team that secured a bronze medal at the Thomas Cup in Denmark recently.

The Asian Games gold medallist had earlier expressed disappointment on social media over the limited recognition received by the team following the achievement, sparking widespread discussion among sports fans.

Clarifying his remarks, Satwik said his intention was only to highlight the importance of celebrating every sporting success, irrespective of the scale of the event or popularity of the sport.

He said athletes across disciplines work tirelessly to represent the country and deserve encouragement and acknowledgment for their efforts.

Satwik and Chirag Shetty have emerged as one of India’s most successful badminton doubles pairs in recent years, winning multiple international titles and playing a key role in India’s rise in global badminton.

India’s bronze-medal finish in the prestigious Thomas Cup added another significant milestone to the country’s growing achievements in team badminton competitions.
