Jaipur, May 9: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday instructed government officials to adopt a citizen-focused and result-oriented approach in administration, stressing that public grievances must be addressed efficiently and within fixed timelines.

Birla issued the directions while chairing a high-level review meeting at the Command Area Development Auditorium in Kota. The meeting was attended by officials from the police department, district administration, Municipal Corporation, Kota Development Authority and several other government agencies overseeing development works in the Kota-Bundi region.

During the review, Birla assessed departmental performance, grievance redressal mechanisms, civic services and the status of ongoing infrastructure and welfare projects. He said governance should go beyond routine administration and must build public trust by ensuring that citizens’ concerns are heard and resolved promptly.

Emphasising transparency and efficiency, he directed all departments to simplify complaint redressal procedures and work within clearly defined deadlines. He also instructed officials to strengthen drinking water infrastructure and speed up pending water supply projects in the region.

The Lok Sabha Speaker ordered Municipal Corporation authorities to ensure doorstep delivery of birth and death certificates and directed that applications related to such documents be processed within 48 hours.

Highlighting the challenges faced by rural and nomadic communities, Birla called for special camps and field surveys to identify individuals who remain excluded from official documentation and government welfare schemes.

He also stressed the need for stronger monitoring of civic complaints and instructed sanitary inspectors to carry out regular zone-wise inspections to ensure swift action on sanitation, drainage, electricity and related civic issues.

Birla further proposed the establishment of Municipal Corporation sub-offices in areas such as Kaithoon, where citizens would have direct access to essential public service teams handling water supply, sanitation and electricity-related concerns. He suggested that officers of Deputy Commissioner rank should visit these offices weekly to resolve local grievances, especially in remote and rural areas.

Reviewing the functioning of the Kota Development Authority, he directed officials to form dedicated patrolling squads to prevent encroachments and remove illegal occupations without delay.

He also instructed the police department to intensify action against crime, narcotics, theft and unlawful activities in Kota, making it clear that theft of public property, including streetlights and civic infrastructure, would not be tolerated.

Birla additionally proposed transforming every Gram Panchayat office into a “Resolution Centre,” where Patwaris and Village Development Officers would jointly remain available once a week to directly address complaints and service-related issues raised by villagers.

The Speaker also highlighted the importance of correcting discrepancies in Aadhaar, Jan Aadhaar and ration cards through targeted drives and camps, noting that documentation errors often prevent eligible citizens from receiving government benefits.
Expressing concern over delays in handling public complaints, Birla said prolonged pendency reflected administrative negligence and directed officials to ensure faster disposal of cases.

Senior representatives from departments including Public Works, Public Health Engineering, Irrigation, Agriculture and the Rajasthan State Road Development and Construction Corporation attended the meeting along with district administration and police officials from Kota and Bundi.
