Patna, May 10: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary has offered a detailed explanation regarding former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s resignation on April 14, describing it as a carefully considered political transition rather than a sudden or pressure-driven decision.
Speaking publicly on May 10, nearly 25 days after Nitish Kumar stepped down, Choudhary said the move was part of a broader plan to hand over leadership responsibilities to a younger generation within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

According to him, Nitish Kumar believed that after serving Bihar for almost two decades, the time had come to encourage fresh leadership and create space for younger faces in state politics.
Vijay Kumar Choudhary noted that the Bharatiya Janata Party had remained a long-standing ally and consistently backed Nitish Kumar’s leadership throughout the alliance years. In recognition of that support, Nitish Kumar reportedly supported the elevation of a young BJP leader who had remained loyal to him politically over the years.
The decision ultimately led to Samrat Choudhary assuming office as Bihar’s new Chief Minister.
During a visit to Shirdi, where he paid respects at the Sai Baba temple, Vijay Kumar Choudhary also addressed questions regarding Nishant Kumar’s entry into active politics.
He said leaders within the Janata Dal (United) had been requesting for several months that Nishant Kumar join public life and take on a political role within the party structure.
Defending Nishant Kumar’s appointment as Health Minister, Choudhary stated that the decision was made after considering his ability to contribute effectively to governance and administration.
He rejected allegations of dynastic politics, asserting that Nishant Kumar’s induction was based on collective opinion within the party rather than a personal or family-driven decision.
Responding to criticism from RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Choudhary pointed out that former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had also introduced members of his family into politics.
He maintained that the NDA government in Bihar remains stable and united under the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. According to him, the current administration would continue working along the governance model established during Nitish Kumar’s tenure and could remain in power for years if it sustains its development-oriented approach.
