Kasargod, May 11: A young woman allegedly died by suicide at Kuntageradka near Kumbla after reportedly being distressed over the death of her fiancé in a road accident.

The deceased has been identified as Prafulla (26), daughter of Janardhan of Kuntageradka.

Prafulla had got engaged four months ago to Mani, a native of Tamil Nadu. About a month ago, Mani sustained serious injuries in an accident after another bike collided with the motorcycle he was riding. He underwent treatment in hospital for several days but later succumbed to his injuries after failing to respond to treatment.

Following Mani’s death, Prafulla had reportedly fallen into depression.

On Sunday, while family members had gone to attend a marriage function, Prafulla allegedly ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence. The incident came to light when the family returned home.

Police recovered a note believed to have been written by her. In the letter, she reportedly expressed her wish that her last rites be conducted at the same place where Mani’s funeral was held.

Police conducted a mahazar and stated that the body would be handed over to relatives after post-mortem at Kasargod General Hospital.

Mani, who hailed from Tamil Nadu, was employed in a bank. The families had reportedly planned to conduct the wedding after November.
