Iran asks US to end ‘one-sided’ stance amid tensions

Tehran, May 11: Iran has urged the United States to abandon what it described as a “one-sided approach” and accept Tehran’s “legitimate demands”, including an end to hostilities, lifting of restrictions, release of frozen Iranian assets and stopping what it called maritime piracy.

Speaking at a media briefing, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran’s proposals were aimed at protecting Iran’s national interests while also supporting regional and global stability.

“In our proposal, we only raised Iran’s legitimate rights. Everything we proposed in the text was reasonable and generous,” Baghaei said, according to Iran’s state-linked Fars News Agency

He said the proposals were not only in Iran’s interest but also beneficial for the region and the wider world, while accusing the US of continuing to push “unreasonable demands”.

Rejecting allegations of aggressive behaviour by Tehran, Baghaei said Iran had consistently acted responsibly in the region.

“Iran has proven itself to be a responsible power in the region. We are not bullies; we are anti-bullying,” he said.

Baghaei also criticised Washington’s foreign policy, accusing it of exerting pressure on countries such as Cuba and Venezuela.

He further said Iran’s demands included ending the war, lifting the blockade, halting maritime interference and releasing Iranian assets frozen under US pressure.

The spokesperson stressed that security in the region, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, should be managed by regional countries without outside intervention.

The remarks came a day after US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East, calling it “totally unacceptable”.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I don’t like it TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Iranian state media had earlier reported that Tehran formally conveyed its official response to the United States through Pakistani mediation after what officials described as a detailed internal review process
