Kuwait Canara Welfare Association holds its general body meeting

Kuwait, May 11: Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) held its general body meeting on Friday, May 8 at Indian School of Excellence, Salmiya. The meeting commenced with the opening prayer led by Prakash Gonsalves.

President Prakash Godwin Pinto heartily welcomed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to all members for their love, support, and encouragement. In his message, he expressed gratitude towards the members for their support to KCWA events. He also requested everyone’s support for KCWA upcoming events.

Various Reports were presented and approved by the members present. Reena Pereira presented minutes of last GBM and Vinitha Pinto presented the activity report. Finance, membership and education fund reports were presented by Jinella Rodrigues, Tressy Cutinho and Veena Serrao respectively.

Cultural activity and sports activity reports were presented by Johnson Dalmeida and Roystun D’Souza respectively, whilst they updated the upcoming events. Website and social media updates were presented by Nilton D’Souza. As part of the cultural activity, it was announced that a mega event is proposed to be conducted on December 4. Members attending the GBM were invited to submit suggestions for the name of the event, with entries to be submitted on or before June 30. It was also announced that a special prize would be awarded to the member whose suggested name is selected for the event.

Spiritual animator Fr Avil Rosario began his inspiring message with the word of God from the letter of St Paul to the Ephesians. He beautifully reminded us that though we come from different places and backgrounds, we are united as one family in Christ. He encouraged everyone to live in love, remain united in spirit, and work hand in hand for the upliftment and welfare of the needy and less fortunate.

Parish priest of Minor Basilica, Ahmadi Church Fr Darel Fernandes were also present at the GBM. Addressing the gathering, he appreciated and applauded the remarkable work carried out by KCWA in supporting educational and humanitarian causes. He praised the GBM proceedings for being well-organized, transparent, and clearly presented.

Fr Darel highlighted that many people have benefited from the generous support of the Konkani-speaking community, noting that Konkani people are always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He acknowledged KCWA’s dedicated efforts in assisting many deserving individuals through various charitable and educational initiatives. Conveying his best wishes for the continued success and growth of the association, he concluded his message with the heartfelt words, ‘Long live KCWA!’

To ensure the constitution remains relevant and effective, it was decided to review it. In this regard, a constitutional amendment committee was formed to study the current provisions, identify what needs to be changed or improved, and make recommendations.

KCWA expressed gratitude and felicitated former president and life member, Maria Rinna D’Souza for her dedicated support and enormous contribution to KCWA with warmest wishes for her future, as she plans to leave Kuwait for good. KCWA also felicitated life member Anand Joseph D’Souza, proprietor of M/s Waves Sounds for his continues support to the association’s events. They were felicitated with a flower bouquet, shawl and memento.

Tressy Cutinho and Jinella Rodrigues conducted the lucky draw for the members present at the venue before the beginning of the meeting and winner picked by Ahmadi Church parish priest Fr Darel Fernandes. Tressy Cutinho # 1323 emerged as the lucky winner.

Prashanth Ferrao proposed the vote of thanks and led the closing prayer. Vice president, Arun Jossy D’Souza was the moderator. Prashanth Ferrao captured the event through his skills in photography supported by Arwin Rodrigues. Projector was provided by Alban D’Souza. Nilton D’Souza animated the presentation supported by Jinella Rodrigues and Allan D’Souza. Sound system was provided by Anand D’Souza of M/s Waves Sounds. Dinner was served by China Metro Restaurant, Farwaniya. Around 200 members with their families were present. Delicious dinner was served to all present at the GBM.

KCWA managing committee expressed its sincere gratitude to members for attending the GBM and sharing their valuable thoughts and constructive suggestions and also the management of Indian School of Excellence, Salmiya for providing the venue to hold the meeting.
