Kuwait accuses Iran’s Revolutionary Guards of attempted infiltration on Bubiyan Island

Kuwait City, May 13: Kuwait on Tuesday accused members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of attempting to infiltrate the country through Bubiyan Island to carry out hostile activities, according to statements issued by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior.

Kuwaiti authorities said Armed Forces personnel intercepted the group after they allegedly entered Kuwaiti waters by sea. The Ministry of Interior confirmed that four infiltrators were arrested during the operation.

Officials stated that the suspects admitted during questioning that they were affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and had travelled aboard a rented fishing boat as part of a mission targeting Kuwait.

The ministry added that a confrontation broke out between the infiltrators and Kuwaiti security forces, resulting in injuries to one member of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, while two other suspects reportedly managed to escape.

In a strongly worded statement, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it described as an unlawful and hostile act aimed at undermining the country’s security and regional stability.

The ministry called on Iran to immediately halt what it termed “hostile activities” that threaten peace in the Gulf region and disrupt international efforts to reduce tensions.

Kuwait also reiterated its commitment to maintaining good relations with neighbouring countries and stressed that it rejects the use of its territory or airspace for attacks against any nation.

Describing the alleged infiltration as a serious violation of sovereignty and international law, Kuwait said the incident contravened the United Nations Charter and challenged UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.

The Foreign Ministry further asserted that Iran bears full responsibility for the incident and emphasised Kuwait’s right to defend its sovereignty and protect its citizens under Article 51 of the UN Charter and international law.
