Mangaluru: Milagres College of Nursing celebrates International Nurses Day

Mangaluru, May 13: Milagres College of Nursing celebrated International Nurses Day 2026 on May 12th in the College Auditorium with great enthusiasm and dignity. The programme was organized based on the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empower Nurses, Save Lives.”

The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Merin. The formal inauguration of the programme and the Red Cross Unit was carried out in the presence of dignitaries. The oath administration for the Red Cross Unit was led by Alisiya, assistant lecturer and Red Cross coordinator.

The programme was presided over by Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, correspondent, Milagres Educational Institutions spoke about the significant role of nurses in healthcare and appreciated their dedication, compassion, sacrifice, and selfless service towards society.

The chief guest for the occasion was Dr Nithyashree B V, nodal officer, Youth Red Cross, Yenepoya Deemed to be University. In her address, the chief guest highlighted the importance of the Red Cross movement and emphasized the vital role students play in promoting humanitarian values, service, leadership, and social responsibility in society.

The gathering was also addressed by Dr Diana Lobo, principal, Milagres College of Nursing, who spoke about the noble role of nurses in healthcare and stressed the need for empowering nurses through knowledge, discipline, compassion, confidence, and professional commitment to ensure quality patient care and a stronger healthcare system.

Jyothi Cutinha, vice principal, and Diana D’Lima, SNA advisor, were also present for the programme.

A variety of competitions were organized as part of the celebration, including a flower arrangement competition using locally available flowers and a reel competition. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners in appreciation of their creativity and participation.

One of the highlights of the programme was a panel discussion conducted by the faculty members, focusing on the importance of empowering nurses and strengthening the future of healthcare services. The celebration also included vibrant cultural programmes presented by the students, which added joy and enthusiasm to the occasion.

The programme was efficiently compered by Jennifer and Anshel, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Anushka D’Mello. The celebration concluded with a delicious lunch.
