Mangaluru: Yenepoya Nursing College celebrates International Nurses Day 2026

Mangaluru, May 13: Yenepoya Nursing College celebrated International Nurses Day on May 13, at the Yendurance Zone, Deralakatte. The event served as a significant platform to honor the nursing profession and discuss the evolving standards of healthcare education and professional leadership.

The ceremony was officially inaugurated with the auspicious lighting of the lamp by the distinguished dignitaries, symbolizing the enduring spirit of Florence Nightingale. The chief guest, Srikanth Pulari, registrar of the Karnataka State Nursing Council, urged the nursing community to uphold the professional etiquettes established by the founder of modern nursing. He noted that the current competency-based syllabus is a vital tool for preparing future nurses to be leaders equipped with emotional intelligence, communication skills, and ethical principles. He also highlighted the need to navigate the challenges of the current digital climate and advocated for improved working conditions.

Guest of honor Dr Gangadhara Somayaji K S, vice chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), remarked that nurses are the most vital part of the healthcare system, as quality nursing care is what truly reaches the patient and alleviates suffering. In her presidential address, Dr Leena K C, dean of Yenepoya Nursing College, emphasized that student nurses make the best use of clinical learning are essential steps to empower the next generation of nursing professionals.

The event was further graced by pro vice chancellor Dr Sreepathi Rao, medical superintendent Dr Habeeb Rahaman, and nursing superintendent Noothan Losrado. The programme was efficiently emceed by Daisy and Sreedivi The formal proceedings began with a welcome address by Dr Priya Reshma Aranha, vice principal, and concluded with a vote of thanks by programme convener Prof Shashi Kumar Jawadagi.

Following the conclusion of the formal programme, a panel discussion was held, providing a forum for deeper dialogue on the current challenges and future directions of the nursing profession by Dr Leena K C, Srikanth Phulari, Port Bridget D’Silva, Dr Renitha Priya, Renitha T, Hasana T and Alwin.
