Iran accuses Kuwait of attacking boat, detaining nationals amid rising Gulf tensions

Tehran, May 14: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday strongly criticised Kuwait over an alleged attack on an Iranian boat and the detention of four Iranian citizens in the Persian Gulf, warning that Tehran reserves the right to respond.

In a post on X, Araghchi accused Kuwait of acting unlawfully and alleged that the move was aimed at creating discord in the region.

“In clear attempt to sow discord, Kuwait has unlawfully attacked an Iranian boat and detained four of our citizens in the Persian Gulf,” he stated.

He further claimed that the incident occurred near an island allegedly used by the United States during attacks on Iran and demanded the immediate release of the detained Iranian nationals.

“We demand immediate release of our nationals and reserve the right to respond,” Araghchi added.

Iranian state broadcaster Press TV also alleged that Kuwaiti territory had been used as a platform for US military operations against Iran during the ongoing regional conflict.

According to the report, Iran had earlier retaliated by targeting American military bases located in Kuwait and had urged Kuwaiti authorities to expel US forces from their territory to avoid future reprisals.

The latest remarks come amid heightened tensions across the Gulf region following the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

Meanwhile, Iranian media also referred to recent reports claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had secretly visited the United Arab Emirates during “Operation Roaring Lion,” a claim that was later strongly denied by the UAE government.

In another development, Yemen’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras reportedly sent a letter to Araghchi expressing solidarity with Iran and condemning US-Israeli actions against Tehran.

According to Press TV, the Yemeni official warned that continued military action against Iran could destabilise the entire region and potentially impact the wider world.

He also called on Islamic nations to unite against what he described as aggression towards Iran and praised the resilience and unity displayed by the Iranian people.
