Mangaluru, May 14: Michael D’Souza announced an initiative to publish 100 Konkani books over the next five years while speaking at the release of Chunyacho Fond at Press Club Mangalore on Thursday.
The book, authored by Raymond D’Cunha Taccode, is a collection of Konkani poems published in Kannada and Devanagari scripts. The event brought together writers, journalists, and members of the Konkani community to celebrate regional literature and culture.

Addressing the gathering, Michael D’Souza said preserving Konkani language and literature is a shared responsibility of the community. He stressed that many writers have talent and valuable manuscripts, but lack the financial support needed for publication. To address this, he said Michael D'Souza Vision Konkani (MDVK) has taken up a project to support authors and publish 100 Konkani books within five years.
He noted that writing a book requires years of dedication, patience, and hard work, and compared the process to nurturing a child before birth. He said every writer’s effort should be valued and encouraged, as literature plays an important role in preserving language and cultural identity.
The programme was presided over by Pushparaj B N. Rajesh Poojary attended as guest of honour, while the book was introduced by renowned Konkani writer Lavi Ganjimata. Other dignitaries from Michael D’Souza Vision Konkani (MDVK) were also present.
The event concluded with appreciation for author Raymond D’Cunha Taccode and a call to continue supporting Konkani writers and promoting regional literature.
