New Delhi, May 14: The government on Thursday assured that sufficient reserves of petrol and diesel are available across the country and that retail prices at public sector oil marketing company (OMC) outlets remain stable with no increase recorded.
During the daily inter-ministerial briefing, a Petroleum Ministry official said there is no shortage of fuel at any petrol station and urged citizens not to panic-buy petroleum products or LPG.

“Citizens are advised to conserve energy in their daily use during the current situation,” the official said, adding that people should avoid unnecessary rush at fuel stations and rely only on verified government sources for information, while steering clear of rumours.
The ministry further reiterated that despite ongoing geopolitical concerns, uninterrupted supply of domestic LPG, PNG, and CNG is being maintained at full capacity across the country.
According to official data, around 1.90 lakh 5-kg refillable LPG cylinders were sold over the last three days, including approximately 67,600 cylinders on Wednesday alone. During the same period, about 1.39 crore LPG cylinders were delivered against nearly 1.40 crore bookings, indicating near-complete fulfilment of demand.
On the natural gas front, the government said significant expansion has taken place in pipeline infrastructure. Since March, around 7.03 lakh PNG connections have been activated, while facilities for an additional 2.72 lakh connections have been created, bringing the total potential network to 9.75 lakh connections.
In addition, about 7.49 lakh consumers have registered for new PNG connections, and more than 57,200 users have voluntarily surrendered their LPG connections through the MYPNGD.in portal as of May 13.
The Petroleum Ministry also noted that PSU oil companies have stepped up enforcement measures, conducting surprise inspections and penalising 401 LPG distributorships, while suspending 76 others for irregularities.
To support industrial demand, 1,120 metric tonnes per day from the LPG pool has been allocated to sectors such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and paints. Since May 1, 2026, refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, Vizag, Chennai, Mathura, and Gujarat have supplied over 6,700 metric tonnes of C3-C4 molecules and more than 2,800 metric tonnes of butyl acrylate to industrial users, the ministry added.
