Kaup police arrest rowdy-sheeter absconding for six years

Kaup, May 16: Police on May 15 arrested a rowdy-sheeter and warrant accused who had been absconding and failing to appear before the court for the past six years.

The accused has been identified as Abhijith (34), who was traced and taken into custody at Punjalkatte.

According to police, the accused had allegedly attempted to outrage the modesty of a woman near Mallaru Pakirankatte in 2016. While the case was under trial, he failed to appear before the court and had been absconding ever since. Kaup police had been searching for the accused for the past six years.

The accused was produced before the Udupi court, which remanded him to judicial custody till May 25. He has been lodged at the Udupi district prison, police said.

During interrogation, it was also found that cases had been registered against the accused at Mysuru Narasimharajapura and Bajpe police stations, and that he had been absconding in those cases as well.

The operation to trace the accused was carried out under the guidance of Karkala subdivision DySP Vijay Prasad and Kaup circle inspector Azmath Ali. Kaup SIs Tejaswi T I and Shubhakara (Investigation) led the team, with staff members Mohammed Rafiq and Raghu assisting in the operation.
