Beed man dies by suicide after alleged public humiliation

Beed, May 17: A man allegedly died by suicide in Beed district after he was reportedly slapped by a woman in public, leaving him emotionally distressed, police said on Sunday.

According to officials, the incident took place in Moha village in Parli Vaijnath tehsil on May 13. The deceased, identified as Chandrahar Rajebhau Shinde, allegedly hanged himself on May 15 in the Mungalyachamala area on the outskirts of Karewadi village.

A police official from Sirsala Police Station said the alleged public humiliation deeply affected Shinde emotionally.

“Before ending his life, Shinde phoned his father and told him it was his last call,” the official said.

Police have registered a case against the woman accused of slapping him. Investigators are currently recording statements from witnesses present during the incident as well as from family members to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the suicide.

Further investigation is underway.
