Four Dead, 220 Missing as Boat Sinks in Bangladesh


Dhaka, Mar 13 (IANS): Four people were killed and over 220 went missing Tuesday when a passenger boat capsized in Bangladesh's Meghna river following a collision with a cargo vessel, a media report said.

The incident took place in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj district early Tuesday, reported Daily Star.

Thirty passengers of MV Shariatpur-1 swam ashore while the rest were missing.

The bodies of two men were found at 11.45 a.m. Barely 10 minutes later, authorities found the bodies of another man and a woman.

Md Azizul Alam, an official, said the Dhaka-bound launch sank after an oil-laden cargo boat collided with it around 2.30 a.m.
