Beltangady: Thieves strike 10 shops in single night, escape with lacs in cash

Beltangady, May 19: In a daring string of serial thefts, a gang of thieves broke into as many as ten commercial establishments and offices across the town late last night, decamping with lacs of rupees in cash.

The thieves targeted Samruddhi Enterprises, located in the Dharmashree Building on Court Road. They broke into the premises and stole around Rs 1.50 lac in cash. To avoid detection and erase evidence, the culprits damaged the CCTV cameras installed on the premises and took away the memory cards before escaping.

In the same building, the gang also ransacked the office of TH Real Estate, the building owner’s office, and the chambers of advocates Radhakrishna, Usha N G, and Yatish Shetty P.

Moving towards the Three-Road (Mooru Marga) junction, the thieves broke into Mathrushree Hotel, stealing Rs 5,000 from a box and another Rs 2,000 from a drawer.

Following this, they broke into the adjacent Sabari Enterprises and stole around Rs 2,000. The offices of advocate Jayarama Maniyani, M/s Himalaya Finance and Investment, and advocate Jithesh K were also broken into by the gang.

The Beltangady police visited the crime scenes on Tuesday morning to conduct an inspection. An investigation has been launched to track down the culprits.
