Beltangady, May 19: In a shocking act of cruelty, more than ten stray and domesticated dogs died after being intentionally poisoned by miscreants at Kuttikala in Arala village, under the Punjalkatte police station limits. The incident has sparked widespread outrage among local residents and animal lovers.
A number of stray dogs roamed around Kuttikala Junction, where a few local residents used to feed them on a daily basis alongside their own pets. It is gathered that miscreants deliberately mixed poison into the food left out for the canines.

Upon consuming the laced food, both the stray dogs and several pet dogs began writhing in agony. Residents described the scene as heartbreaking, as the animals whimpered and suffered intensely before succumbing to the poison.
Deeply angered by the malicious act, animal lovers and locals have filed official complaints with the local gram panchayat and the Bantwal rural police station.
Pointing out that harming or poisoning animals is a punishable offense under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the locals have strongly demanded that the authorities identify the perpetrators and take stringent legal action against them.
