Teen sensation Sooryavanshi lights up IPL with record-breaking power-hitting

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, May 26: Rajasthan Royals’ teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to dominate the Indian Premier League with explosive performances that have powered his team into the playoffs.

The 15-year-old has scored 583 runs so far, emerging as Rajasthan Royals’ leading run-scorer of the season. His fearless batting approach has drawn widespread attention, particularly his ability to take on top international bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada, all of whom he has hit for sixes.

Sooryavanshi has registered a staggering strike rate of 232.27 and has smashed 53 sixes in IPL 2026, making him one of the most destructive batters of the season.

He currently holds the second-best strike rate in a single IPL season (minimum 100 runs), behind Delhi Capitals’ Jake Fraser-McGurk, who recorded a strike rate of 234.04 in IPL 2024.

Despite a low score in his last league match against Mumbai Indians, which slightly reduced his strike rate, Sooryavanshi remains ahead of several modern T20 greats, including MS Dhoni, Andre Russell, Rashid Khan and Tim David in seasonal strike-rate comparisons.

Highest strike rate in an IPL season (100+ runs)
Jake Fraser-McGurk – 234.04 (IPL 2024)
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi – 232.27 (IPL 2026)
MS Dhoni – 220.54 (IPL 2024)
Rashid Khan – 216.66 (IPL 2023)
Tim David – 216.27 (IPL 2022)

Sooryavanshi is also closing in on a major milestone in T20 cricket — the record for most sixes in a single tournament.

He has hit 53 sixes so far in IPL 2026, just seven short of the record held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who smashed 59 sixes in IPL 2012.

He remains in strong contention to surpass Gayle’s record as Rajasthan Royals progress into the playoffs, with several matches still remaining in the season.
