Mangaluru, May 27: The city police have arrested two youths who allegedly assaulted a policeman on night beat duty under the Urwa police station limits and later fled to Kerala.
The accused are identified as Sachin K R (24) from Beltangady, and Chandan (24) from Puttur.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 2.10 am on May 24 near Narayanaguru Community Hall Road at Kodikal under the Urwa police station limits. Two youths travelling on a red electric scooter allegedly approached the police personnel who were on beat duty. One of the accused, who was seated on the pillion, suddenly attacked a policeman on the head using a piece of cement sheet, causing injuries.

A case was registered at Urwa police station in Crime No. 57/2026 under Sections 121(1), 109, 132 and 3(5) of the BNS for assaulting police personnel, obstructing government duty and attempt to murder.
During the investigation, based on evidence collected and credible information received, CCB police traced and detained the accused from the Kanhangad area of Kerala on May 26. They were later handed over to the Urwa police station for further action and interrogation. The bike used in the crime has been seized and further investigation is in progress.
Police said the accused were residing in a rented house at Falguni Nagar in Ashoknagar, Mangaluru. Among them, Sachin K R was working as a driver at a sweets factory in Kuntikan, while Chandan was employed as a technician at a car showroom in Kulur.
Investigation revealed that the accused attacked the policemen with a piece of cement sheet after becoming enraged when beat police personnel stopped and questioned them while they were roaming around the city around 2 am.
