Mangaluru, May 27: Age is just a number for adventure enthusiast and entrepreneur Sharath Ekkur from Mangaluru, who is all set to embark on an extraordinary international motorcycle expedition covering nearly 38 countries across Europe and the Gulf region.

At the age of 60, Sharath is preparing for his second major overseas bike journey, proving that passion for travel and adventure knows no limits. He will begin his ambitious expedition on May 31 from near Shanthi Cathedral Church in Mangaluru, riding his Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 motorcycle.

The journey, expected to last nearly five to six months, will cover an estimated distance of 35,000 to 40,000 kilometres, with Sharath planning to ride around 500 kilometres every day.

His route will take him from Mangaluru through Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh before entering Nepal and beginning the international leg of the expedition. From there, he is set to travel through countries including Tibet, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and several European nations.

The European destinations on his route include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Norway.

Sharath will proudly carry both the Indian national flag and the Tulunadu flag throughout the journey, symbolising his love for the country and his cultural roots. His remarkable mission is expected to place him among the few senior riders from India undertaking such a massive international motorcycle expedition.

During his travel through China, he plans to seek assistance from a local tour guide. If circumstances permit, he also hopes to visit Afghanistan during the expedition. The tour is expected to conclude in Oman, from where his motorcycle will be shipped back to India by sea.

Interestingly, this is not Sharath’s first cross-border biking adventure. In 2024, he undertook a memorable ride from Mangaluru to several Gulf countries after transporting his motorcycle from Mumbai to Dubai by ship. That journey was carried out with the social message, ‘Say No to Drugs’.

Sharath Ekkur’s inspiring expedition stands as a powerful reminder that determination, courage and passion can turn even the boldest dreams into reality, regardless of age.
