Udupi police recover seven suspected stolen mobile phones worth lacs

Udupi, May 27: The district police have recovered seven suspected stolen mobile phones worth several lac rupees after alert mobile shop owners identified the devices through the Sanchar Saathi app.

According to a press release issued by the police, unidentified persons had approached various mobile shops in Udupi district attempting to sell mobile phones. The shop owners became suspicious and verified the devices using the Sanchar Saathi application, which revealed that the phones were listed in the blacklist database.

When the sellers were asked to provide valid purchase documents and proof of ownership, they failed to produce any records, raising further suspicion.

On Wednesday, members of the Udupi District Mobile Retailers Association, led by president Vivek G Suvarna along with members Ranjith Shetty, Sandesh, Sudharshan, Ganesh and Abhishek, handed over seven mobile phones to the superintendent of police at the district police office.

The recovered devices include Redmi Model 25028RN031, Redmi Model 2312DRAABI, Samsung Sky Blue model, Realme Model RMX3741, HMD 64 MP AI Camera phone, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (Model SM-S928B/DS), and iQOO Aspherical High Resolution model.

Police said the original owners of the mobile phones will be identified through the CEIR portal, and the devices will be returned to them following legal procedures.

The police also issued an advisory to mobile shop owners and the public:

· Verify mobile phones through the Sanchar Saathi app before purchasing.

· Use the customer’s SIM card for verification instead of personal SIM cards.

· Avoid purchasing phones without proper documents.

· Immediately inform the nearest police station if any suspicious person attempts to sell mobile phones.
