Mangaluru, May 29: “How many people live in your house? Be cautious while using mobile phones. Never share your bank account PIN number with anyone claiming to be from the bank. Do not fall for messages related to stock market trading, part-time jobs or loan apps…” These are among the warnings now being delivered directly at residents’ doorsteps by police personnel in Mangaluru.
With cyber crimes on the rise, the police under the ‘Police to Every Home’ programme are visiting houses across the city to spread awareness. Officers spend around 10 minutes in each house educating family members about cyber crimes and advising them on how to avoid becoming victims.

The police are warning residents about digital arrest scams, stock market trading frauds, fake customer care calls, free gift and lottery scams, and APK files received on mobile phones. They are also distributing a two-page pamphlet containing information on various cyber crimes.
“We visit houses two to three days a week whenever we get free time. Specific areas have been allotted to all constables. While visiting apartments, we coordinate with the owners’ associations,” a constable from Kadri police station said.
According to police sources, so far the programme has reached a total of 1,24,374 houses. This includes 2,021 houses (57 per cent) under Mangaluru North police station limits, 6,600 (88.21 per cent) under South station, 8,611 (84.82 per cent) under East station, 3,815 (100 per cent) under Urwa station, 5,955 (90 per cent) under Barke station, 8,645 (53.58 per cent) under Kankanady station, 6,760 (39.62 per cent) under Konaje station, 15,304 (59.39 per cent) under Ullal station, 4,495 (43.43 per cent) under Mangaluru Rural station, 4,334 (100 per cent) under Panambur station, 8,293 (23.69 per cent) under Kavoor station, 18,438 (57.39 per cent) under Bajpe station, 9,132 (46.62 per cent) under Surathkal station, 11,772 (48.62 per cent) under Mulki station and 10,199 houses (37.40 per cent) under Moodbidri station limits.
