Udupi: Sewage water flows into open canal near Ammunje petrol bunk

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (TP)

Udupi, May 29: An open rainwater drainage canal located near Ammunje petrol bunk in the city has reportedly been contaminated with sewage water over the past few days, causing serious concern among local residents.

The sewage water has been flowing directly into the open canal, spreading a foul smell across the surrounding area. Locals allege that the unhygienic condition has created fears of possible health hazards, especially with the onset of the monsoon season.

The polluted water has remained stagnant in several portions of the canal, turning it into a breeding ground for mosquitoes. This may result in mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria if immediate preventive measures are not taken by the authorities.

People living in the vicinity and those passing through the area have reportedly been facing inconvenience due to the unbearable stench emanating from the canal.

Udupi District Citizens’ Committee convenor Nithyananda Volakad has urged the Udupi City Municipal Council authorities to immediately inspect the area and take suitable action to resolve the issue before the situation worsens.

At this rate whole of India will be facing this issue. It’s only getting worse without any solution in sight. All cities and towns in India are stinking with uncleared garbage piles and sewer drainage overflow including our streams, rivers and seas with untreated sewer disposal. Very pathetic condition.
