Mangaluru, May 29: MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has urged the district administration to extend three major city bus routes in Mangaluru.
In a letter addressed to the deputy commissioner, the MP stated that Route No. 5 should be extended from Morgans Gate to Jeppinamogaru. He also suggested that Route No. 7 be extended from Urwa Stores to the Baikampady Industrial Area in the interest of industrial workers and daily commuters in the Baikampady region.
Further, he recommended extending Route No. 13 up to the interior areas of Panambur beach to provide direct connectivity for domestic and international tourists as well as local visitors.

“The city is growing rapidly, but several city buses are still operating on old and shorter routes. This is making it difficult to meet increasing transportation needs and is also causing losses to bus operators. These routes need to be expanded in line with the growing population,” he stated.
He further said that extending the three routes would benefit daily commuters, students and employees. It would also provide direct connectivity to major tourist destinations along the coast and encourage the growth of tourism.
Following the points mentioned in the MP’s letter, the deputy commissioner’s office has written to senior transport department officials, directing them to place the matter urgently before the Regional Transport Authority meeting and take appropriate decisions.
