Beirut, May 30: Tensions across the Middle East remained high on Friday as Israeli military operations in Lebanon continued despite an existing ceasefire, while large rallies and political demonstrations were reported in Iran amid ongoing diplomatic uncertainty over a possible peace agreement with the United States.

Israeli forces have expanded ground operations in southern Lebanon, crossing areas north of the Litani River in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as part of a broader campaign against Hezbollah. Airstrikes and military actions have continued despite a ceasefire brokered in April, raising concerns over the stability of the truce.

According to Lebanese and international agencies, recent strikes have caused significant casualties and displacement. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reported that children continue to be among the worst affected by the violence, with dozens killed or injured in recent weeks.

In Iran, public rallies and political gatherings have highlighted support for the country's leadership and resistance to foreign pressure. Iranian officials have continued to express distrust of US assurances and insist that any future agreement must be based on concrete actions rather than promises.

The situation remains complicated by ongoing negotiations involving the United States and Iran over a broader peace framework, including issues related to Iran's nuclear programme and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. While diplomatic efforts continue, Tehran has maintained that no final agreement has yet been reached.

Analysts warn that continued military actions in Lebanon and unresolved disputes involving Iran could further weaken fragile ceasefires and increase the risk of a wider regional escalation.
