Udupi, May 31: A 29-year-old goods tempo driver was killed on the spot after his vehicle crashed into the rear of a goods truck near Kinnimulki on National Highway 66 in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Prashanth P (29), a native of Shivamogga. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Preliminary information suggests that the goods tempo may have rammed into a stationary truck.

The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the front portion of the tempo completely mangled. Rescue personnel faced considerable difficulty in retrieving the driver's body, which was trapped inside the wreckage.

Social worker Nithyananda Olakadu, traffic police personnel, and local residents joined hands to extricate the body from the damaged vehicle. Olakadu also facilitated the shifting of the body to the mortuary at the Ajjarkad district hospital for post-mortem examination.

Further investigation is being carried out by the police to determine the circumstances leading to the accident.
