Mangalore, Mar 15: Bellary superintendent of police, Chandragupta, who had been functioning as assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Puttur in 2009, deposed before the fast track court here that serial killer Mohan Kumar, widely known as Cyanide Mohan, had confessed to his crime in his presence.

Chandragupta was deposing before the fast track court here, which has been hearing murder charges levelled against Mohan Kumar, on Wednesday March 14.

“On October 21, 2009, I had taken Mohan into custody from the rural police of Bantwal. A mobile phone, some currency notes, a black hand bag, plastic sachet containing cyanide powder, and a mobile set without sim card, had been confiscated from his possession,” he explained.

In his confession, Mohan explained about how he cheated the girls, and the modus operandi employed to kill them. He revealed about how he killed Anita from Barimaru and many other girls. He said he raped these girls before killing them with the help of cyanide, Chandragupta explained. He said the accused had been produced in the court, and was taken into police custody the next day.

“On the basis of Mohan’s statements, we visited the house of his second wife in Belma village. In our presence, he opened his bag there, and showed fake rubber seals of education department, identity cards, cyanide bottles, etc. All these things were procured in a sealed cover and produced in court,” he added.

Mohammed from Puttur, who faces charge of supplying cyanide to Mohan on regular basis, who was expected to depose before the court on Wednesday, failed to appear before the court. Due to paucity of time, Mohan Kumar, who is defending himself in the case, could not cross-examine the witness.

Special public prosecutor, Cheyyabba Beary, represented the prosecution.

I can understand your sentiment. but if acceptance of a crime was enough to convict a person. then people may force someone else to confess for their crimes if they have money or power. the constitution is here to stop these things from happening, eventhough there are still lot of loopholes which criminals use.

Unless and until we review and revise our judicial system, justice cant be done...we have to blame our system for the dealy as we have continued with British justice system of India, which was mainly used to delay the justice...

All wrong doers irrespetive of their faith must be punished according to the gravity of the crime.. be it Afzal. Mohan kumar, Antony, singh etc no body should escape justice system...Its not the mistake of any criminal who is enjoying extra time, but its the mistake of our system, so we should be blamed and not the under trials..

Mr.Karan Pinto, the convicted people as Kasab, Afzal Guru still await death sentence, as though verdict is received they can make higher appeal or can wait till the appeal gets a clear signal. So why should you make comment on court judgment.

Shame on our legal system. When the accused confesses his crimes we still waste time money to complete the process of legal system. In spite of all evidnce anything ,may happen in India,he may be jailed for years and fed with chicken biriyani at the cost of tax payers money.Soon Cyanide Mohan will become VIP of Indian Republic.

Good News! Atleast now he confessed his crime after getting arrested in Oct 2009. It took 3 years to make him accept crime. Lets wait and see how much time fast track court takes to give judgement. Mera Bharat Mahan.
