Mangaluru, May 31: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, ushered in the academic year 2026–27 for the students of UKG, grades I to X and XII with joy, enthusiasm and spiritual fervour during the reopening ceremony held on May 29 in the school auditorium.

The campus came alive with an atmosphere of optimism and renewed purpose as students and faculty gathered under the inspiring theme, “Be ready to sparkle and shine this year – Education gives us wings to fly.”

Adding colour and excitement to the reopening day, the UKG and primary section children received a particularly warm welcome. The school campus was beautifully adorned with vibrant decorations, cheerful displays, and colourful welcome messages that created a festive atmosphere for the young learners.

A specially designed selfie-corner added to the excitement, making the first day memorable and enjoyable for the children as they stepped into a new academic year with smiles and enthusiasm.

The new academic year commenced with a solemn prayer service meaningfully conducted by the students of grade XA, invoking god’s blessings for a fruitful and enriching year ahead. The gathering was warmly welcomed by the principal, Sr Melissa. A special highlight of the ceremony was the formal introduction and felicitation of the newly appointed teachers by the administrator, Sr Carissima.

Presenting them with roses as a symbol of appreciation and encouragement, she welcomed them into the MCCS family and addressed the students with an inspiring message on the importance of discipline, attentiveness, responsibility, and a positive outlook throughout the year.

The new students were also cordially welcomed into the MCCS family, fostering in them a sense of belonging and warmth. The coordinators for the academic year were introduced during the programme as well.

In her inspiring address, principal Sr Melissa eloquently reflected on the school motto, “Higher and Nobler,” underscoring the institution’s commitment to holistic education through the nurturing of spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social development. Emphasising the ideals of national integration and communal harmony, she encouraged students to rise above all divisions and uphold the values of unity, mutual respect and inclusiveness.

Drawing inspiration from the exemplary lives and enduring legacy of Mother of Carmel, the patroness of the school, and venerable Mother Veronica, the foundress of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation, the principal urged students to cultivate compassion, discipline, humility and a spirit of selfless service in their daily lives.

She also congratulated the students of Grades X and XII for their outstanding performance in the Board Examinations and motivated the present batches to uphold the institution’s proud tradition of academic excellence.

The principal further acquainted students with important school regulations relating to punctuality, uniform, discipline and various CBSE-related guidelines. Special emphasis was laid on CBSE’s no-sugar policy and school’s no-distribution-of-chocolates policy on birthdays, as well as on contributing towards the birthday fund as an expression of social responsibility and care for others.

The ceremony concluded on a patriotic and harmonious note with the rendition of the National Anthem followed by the School Song, heralding a graceful and promising beginning to yet another year of learning, growth, service, and achievement at Mount Carmel Central School.

Following the welcome assembly, the class teachers conducted orientation sessions for the students in their respective classrooms. The students were familiarised with the school's vision and mission, core values, academic expectations, and important rules and regulations. The sessions provided an opportunity to acquaint students with the school's culture and ethos, helping them begin the new academic year with clarity, confidence and a sense of responsibility.
