Mangaluru, May 31: The Surat–Mangaluru Junction–Surat bi-weekly express (Train Nos. 19057/19058), earlier operated as a special service, will be regularised from June 4, railway authorities have announced.
The Railway ministry had approved the regularisation of the service in March. Under the revised arrangement, Train No. 19057 from Surat will commence regular operations on June 3, while Train No. 19058 from Mangaluru Junction will begin service on June 4.
Train No. 19057 Surat–Mangaluru Junction bi-weekly express will depart Surat on Sundays and Wednesdays at 7.35 pm and arrive at Mangaluru Junction at 7.45 pm the next day.
In the return direction, Train No. 19058 Mangaluru Junction–Surat bi-weekly express will leave Mangaluru Junction on Mondays and Thursdays at 10.30 pm, reaching Surat at 11.45 pm the following day.
The train will halt at Udhna Junction, Valsad, Vapi, Palghar, Vasai Road, Bhivandi Road, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Sawarda, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal, Sawantwadi Road, Thivim, Karmali, Madgaon Junction, Canacona, Karwar, Ankola, Gokarna Road, Kumta, Murdeshwar, Bhatkal, Mookambika Road Byndoor, Kundapura, Udupi, Mulki, and Surathkal along its route.
The train composition includes one 2-tier AC coach, seven 3-tier AC coaches, six sleeper class coaches, four general second class coaches, and two luggage-cum-brake vans.
Initially introduced in April 2023 as a weekly festival special between Udhna Junction (near Surat) and Mangaluru Junction, the service was later upgraded to a bi-weekly operation due to strong demand and extended up to Surat. The Railway ministry has periodically extended its operation until the latest decision to regularise it.
The train has gained popularity among passengers from coastal Karnataka engaged in business activities in Gujarat, as well as travellers from Gujarat visiting Karnataka. Officials said regularisation will reduce fares, bringing them down from special train tariffs to standard express rates.
