Byndoor, June 1: In a tragic incident, a 16-year-old student from Haveri, who was on a family trip, drowned in the Sankadagundi river in Shiroor while swimming on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Ayush (16). A group of seven people from Krushi Nagar near Haveri had embarked on a tour to Murdeshwar and Kanyakumari. After completing their visit to Murdeshwar, they stopped near the Sankadagundi river in Shiroor to rest. While the family members were busy preparing meals, two children went to the adjacent river to take a bath. Ayush reportedly ventured into the deeper part of the water to swim and drowned after failing to gauge the depth.

Although his brother immediately alerted the family members, their desperate attempts to rescue Ayush proved futile.
According to sources, the deceased boy's parents operate a small business in Gujarat, and he was an SSLC student there. He had joined the tour group, which included his mother and another brother, totaling seven members.
Due to the depth of the river, fire brigade personnel and local residents conducted a joint search operation lasting about an hour before retrieving the mortal remains from the water.
The Byndoor police visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
