BJP targets Mamata as Trinamool faces internal rift in Bengal Assembly

Daijiworld Media Network - Kolkata

Kolkata, Jun 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday intensified its attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), claiming that the party and its chief, Mamata Banerjee, are facing the consequences of years of alleged political mismanagement and internal discord.

The remarks came amid a major development within the Trinamool Congress, where a significant section of party legislators reportedly formed a separate bloc in the West Bengal Assembly under the leadership of expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee. The new grouping is said to include 58 of the party's 80 legislators, marking one of the most serious internal challenges faced by the TMC in recent years.

Reacting to the development, BJP leader Amit Malviya alleged that Mamata Banerjee's political influence was weakening and claimed that the recent developments reflected growing dissatisfaction within her own party ranks.

In a post on social media, Malviya said that while Banerjee had harboured national political ambitions, recent electoral setbacks and internal divisions had weakened her position. He argued that the emergence of a rival legislative bloc indicated a loss of control over the party's organisational and legislative structure.

The BJP leader further suggested that additional political challenges could emerge for the Trinamool Congress in the coming months, linking the current turmoil to what he described as years of controversial governance and political decisions.

Meanwhile, the faction of the Trinamool Congress that continues to support Mamata Banerjee and the party's National General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, responded by announcing a sweeping organisational overhaul.

In a statement issued through the party's official channels, the TMC leadership declared the dissolution of all internal committees in West Bengal, including various organisational wings and frontal bodies. The move is being viewed as an attempt to restructure the party and reassert leadership control amid the unfolding crisis.

The latest developments signal a period of significant political uncertainty within the Trinamool Congress, with observers closely watching how the party leadership responds to one of the most serious internal rebellions in its history.
