Chennai, Jun 5: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party, bringing an end to days of speculation over his future in the organisation.
The resignation has been accepted by BJP national president Nitin Nabin, party sources said.
According to sources, senior BJP leaders made several attempts to persuade Annamalai to withdraw his decision. However, the former state unit chief remained firm and chose to step down from the party.

Annamalai's exit is being viewed as a significant development for the BJP in Tamil Nadu, where he emerged as one of the party's most recognisable leaders in recent years.
A former IPS officer, Annamalai played a key role in expanding the BJP's visibility in the state through aggressive campaigning, strong criticism of rival parties and extensive grassroots outreach programmes.
His leadership helped the party strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu and attract attention beyond its traditional support base.
With Annamalai's departure, attention is now expected to shift to the BJP's future strategy in Tamil Nadu and the political course the former state chief may choose to pursue in the coming months.
