Beltangady, Jun 9: Two persons, including a former president of Machina Gram Panchayat, lost their lives in a road accident involving a pickup vehicle and a scooter near Palya on the Machina–Ballamanja–Panakaje road on June 8 evening.
The deceased have been identified as Dakayya Gowda (60), a resident of Kuthu, and Chandappa Moolya (65), a resident of Hentrelu and former president of Machina Gram Panchayat.
According to sources, both men were engaged in grass and weed-cutting work and had gone together for work. They were returning home when the accident occurred.

Dakayya Gowda is survived by his wife and two daughters, while Chandappa Moolya leaves behind his wife, two sons and two daughters.
Reports said that a pickup vehicle belonging to a shamiana business in Madanthyar was travelling from Ballamanja towards Panakaje when it allegedly collided with the scooter ridden by Dakayya Gowda, who was proceeding in the opposite direction from Panakaje towards Ballamanja.
The impact of the collision reportedly threw Chandappa Moolya onto the road, resulting in his death on the spot.
Dakayya Gowda sustained severe head injuries and was being rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way, sources said.
A case has been registered at Punjalkatte police station, and further investigation is underway.
