Hebri, Jun 9: The Hebri police arrested seven individuals and seized property worth over Rs 13 lac during a raid on an illegal gambling operation in Hosuru village of Hebri taluk.
Acting on a credible tip-off received by the deputy superintendent of police of the Karkala sub-division, a police team led by circle inspector Sandeep G S conducted the raid on June 6. The accused had allegedly erected a makeshift tarpaulin shed, complete with electric lighting, tables, and chairs, to facilitate the card-based gambling game 'Andar Bahar.'





During the operation, three individuals were arrested at the spot. They have been identified as Vijesh Kumar (40) of Mangaluru, Dastagir (33) of Mulki, and Rohit (34) of Kudupu, Mangaluru.
The raiding team confiscated Rs 23,970 in cash, five mobile phones worth Rs 35,000, playing cards, tables, chairs, batteries, and electrical equipment from the venue. In addition, three cars, two motorcycles, and one scooter used by the accused to reach the site were seized. The total value of the confiscated property is estimated at Rs 13,07,370.
Following further investigations, the police tracked down and arrested four more accused who had managed to flee during the initial raid. They were identified as Vijay (39) and Santosh Acharya (35) of Kukkundoor in Karkala taluk, Mahesh (26) of Jarkala, and Kishore Kumar (46) of Udyavara in Udupi taluk.
A case has been registered at the Hebri police station (Crime No. 27/2026) under Section 80 of the Karnataka Police Act and Section 112 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused have been taken into custody and will be produced before the court as investigations continue.
