MAHE felicitates Dr B Unnikrishnan, Dr Shiran Shetty on FRCP (Edin) recognition

Udupi, Jun 10: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University, felicitated Dr B Unnikrishnan, dean and professor in the department of community medicine, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), and Dr Shiran Shetty, professor & unit head, department of gastroenterology & hepatology, KMC Manipal and deputy medical superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, in recognition of their notable achievements and contributions in their respective fields during a special ceremony held at Manipal on June 10.

Dr B Unnikrishnan and Dr Shiran Shetty were recently elected as Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP Edin), a globally recognised professional distinction conferred upon physicians who have demonstrated excellence and significant contributions to medicine, healthcare, medical education, research, and public health.

Congratulating the awardees, Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE said, “We are delighted to felicitate Dr B Unnikrishnan and Dr Shiran Shetty for their outstanding achievements and contributions in their respective fields. Such recognitions reflect their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence, and bring pride to the institution.”

Addressing the gathering Dr Sharath K Rao, vice chancellor, MAHE remarked, “This felicitation is a recognition of excellence and sustained contribution. Both Dr Unnikrishnan and Dr Shiran Shetty have demonstrated exemplary commitment to their respective domains, and their accomplishments reflect the values of academic and professional excellence upheld at MAHE.”

Dr B Unnikrishnan currently serves as dean and professor in the department of community medicine at KMC, Mangaluru, and has made significant contributions to epidemiology, preventive medicine, and public health research. Dr Shiran Shetty, professor and unit head department of gastroenterology & hepatology, at Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal and, deputy medical superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, has earned recognition for his contributions to clinical practice, medical education, research, and patient care.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by senior leadership and faculty members. Dr Dilip G Naik, pro vice chancellor, Mangaluru campus, welcomed the gathering, and Dr P Giridhar Kini, registrar of MAHE proposed the vote of thanks.

Founded in 1681, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is one of the world's oldest and most respected medical institutions. Through its fellowship programme, the college recognises physicians who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to advancing healthcare and medical science globally.
