Rome/New Delhi, Jun 10: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he became the longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister in India’s history, while underscoring the strengthening strategic partnership between the two nations.
In a message shared on social media, Meloni extended her congratulations to Modi on achieving the milestone and highlighted the growing cooperation between India and Italy.

Referring to their recent meeting in Rome, Meloni said it was a pleasure to meet the Indian Prime Minister again and jointly launch a Special Strategic Partnership aimed at creating new opportunities for both countries and their people.
She also shared a photograph from Modi’s recent visit to Italy.
During his visit to Rome as part of a five-nation diplomatic tour, Modi held bilateral talks with Meloni and participated in a series of engagements focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors. The two leaders were seen visiting Rome’s iconic Colosseum and holding discussions aimed at deepening ties between the two countries.
The visit also drew attention on social media after Modi gifted Meloni a packet of Parle’s popular Melody toffees, reviving the widely shared “Melodi” nickname coined by internet users to describe the friendly rapport between the two leaders.
Modi achieved the historic milestone on Wednesday by completing 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing the tenure record previously held by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
He first assumed office on May 26, 2014, following the BJP-led NDA’s victory in the general elections. Modi secured a second term in 2019 and began his third consecutive term on June 9, 2024.
