Kasargod: 65-year-old man killed as coconut tree falls due to strong winds

Kasargod, Jun 10: A 65-year-old man lost his life after a coconut tree uprooted and fell on him due to gusty winds near Kumble on Wednesday, June 10 morning. Two others who were with him had a miraculous escape.

The deceased has been identified as Abdulla (65), a resident of Peruvad. He was a fisherman by profession and also served as the president of the Peruvad Juma Masjid committee.


The tragic incident occurred around 8:30 am near Peruvad Maidan. Abdulla was sitting and chatting with his friends, Ibrahim and Hasainar, when the tree suddenly came crashing down due to the heavy winds. Sensing the danger after hearing a cracking sound, Ibrahim and Hasainar managed to run away just in the nick of time.

However, Abdulla was trapped underneath the heavy tree and sustained critical injuries. Though he was rushed to the hospital immediately, he succumbed to his injuries.

The Kumble police have registered a case regarding the incident.
