TMC hit by fresh setback as Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik resigns

Daijiworld Media Network – Kolkata

Kolkata, Jun 11: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) suffered another setback on Thursday after Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik resigned from the Upper House, marking the third resignation by a party MP from the Rajya Sabha in recent days.

Baraik's resignation follows the exits of senior leaders Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Sushmita Dev, raising concerns over the party's strength in Parliament.

With Baraik stepping down, the TMC's strength in the Rajya Sabha is expected to come down to 10 members.

According to party sources, the development could be followed by more resignations, with reports suggesting that up to three additional TMC Rajya Sabha MPs may quit within the next week.

The series of resignations has triggered speculation about internal developments within the Mamata Banerjee-led party, although no official reason has been cited for the latest resignation.

The TMC leadership has not yet issued a detailed statement on Baraik's exit or the reports of further resignations.

The latest development comes at a time when the party is seeking to consolidate its position ahead of key political battles, making the departures a significant challenge for the ruling West Bengal party in the Upper House.
