Mangaluru: Three arrested for illegal ivory trade; elephant tusks weighing 42 kg seized

Mangaluru, Jun 12: The police have arrested three persons who were caught attempting to illegally sell elephant tusks near Jodukatte Maroli in Padavu village in the city.

Seizure and identities

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shashanka Puduvettu from Beltangady, Abdul Khadar from Manjeshwar, and Prabhachandra from Attavar. During the operation, the law enforcement authorities seized two cars and two elephant tusks weighing a total of 42.700 kg from the possession of the accused.

The operation

The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Bengaluru and Madikeri CID forest cell superintendent of police Pawan Nejjur IPS. The raiding team was led by Mangaluru CID forest mobile squad police sub-inspector Dileep G R, and comprised staff members Jayarama K T, Balakrishna K M, Tharanath S, and Abdul Rauf.
